OVERVIEW

COVID-19 and Sustainable Innovation Community

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the global village faces unforeseen difficulties not only in disease control but also across various sectors, including the economy, society, culture, and the environment. Unable to forecast when the present crisis will end, countries around the world are presenting various policies to resolve these issues. However, efforts toward establishing a comprehensive response plan to solve these problems are still lacking. More than ever, it is time to seek a proper response by establishing a global, international system of cooperation and mutual assistance.

The Korea Innovation Foundation(Previously known as INNOPOLIS Foundation, which is at the helm of the many innovation clusters of the Republic of Korea, recognizes the need to establish innovative future policies in anticipation of the post-COVID-19 era, and appreciates the need for cooperation at a global scale. Under these circumstances, the INNOPOLIS, as a center for international cooperation among science parks and innovation clusters, has come to host an international workshop under the topic of  “COVID-19 and Sustainable Innovation Community.” Based on this background, Korea Innovation Foundation is launching the real- time online workshop over three days from November 24 (Tue) to 26 (Thu), 2020 which will provide a forum for discussion among partners in cooperation, related experts, and innovation leaders of key agencies representing a range of states.

In this workshop, we aim to build an understanding of socioeconomic change in the COVID-19 era, and to discuss strategies for “developing clusters as communities for innovation” toward overcoming the present crisis and promoting sustainable progress on both the national and regional levels. The workshop will be organized into two sessions—(1) disease control and (2) socioeconomic response—in which participants will discuss response plans on the national, regional, and social levels.

The Korea Innovation Foundation the Republic of Korea intends to serve as a focal point for global cooperation that goes beyond international cooperation. Through the ‘Korea Innovation Foundation’s initiative, the science parks and innovation clusters of participating countries will become established as leaders in innovation.
